One famous Byzantine Emperor was Justinian I who ruled from AD 527 to 565.

His Contributions:"
- Launched an ambitious building program to promote glory of Roman empire and remade the city (ex. Christian architecture)
- Lead to creation of notable building: Hagia Sophia which was a very important church (a domed structure that later became a mosque and museum)
- He ordered systematic review of Roman laws (most ever done) and codified Roman laws.
- Issued "Corpus Iuris Civilis" which was the body of civil law that influenced law codes of western Europe.
- Lead to creation of many beautiful churches to aid in religious unification.
- Had the effort to reconquer West Roman empire from Germanic people and reestablish rule over Mediterranean basin and reconquered large part of western empire but was not able to maintain it.
